Frequently Asked Questions

Wondering how to scrap your old car or bike?
Here are answers to frequently asked questions about vehicle scrapping to clear your doubts:

You can approach authorized scrap yards or RVSFs approved by RTO for proper vehicle scrapping. They will handle documentation like de-registration and provide certificates. Avoid random roadside scrap car or bike dealers.

As per scrapping policy in India, two-wheelers older than 15 years need to undergo fitness test for renewal. Unfit vehicles must be scrapped at authorized facilities.

Scrap car prices depend on model, condition and metal weight. On average, scrap cars may fetch Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1,50,000. Expect Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 8,000 for old scrap bikes.

Authorized scrap yards follow ethical recycling processes. Hazardous fluids are drained first before dismantling the raw materials which are then recycled or disposed as per environmental rules.

They may not provide proper documentation for de-registration. Scrap vehicles sold to them can be misused leading to legal issues for you. Go with RTO registered scrap vendors only.

Look for RVSF facilities approved for activities like vehicle recycling. Ask for valid certificates from scrap companies before availing their services.

Submit original RC book, insurance papers and other vehicle documents for verification during the car scrapping process. These will be required for de-registration.

On scrapping your vehicle at an RVSF, you will receive a Certificate of Deposit and Certificate of Scrapping. These make you eligible for concessions on new vehicle purchase.

The certificates can help you save on taxes and registration charges when buying a new car. Some states also offer incentives on scrapping old vehicles.

Opt for authorized facilities as they have better understanding of scrap value and metal rates. Their quotes will be higher than what local scrap car buyers may offer.
